Program Details

The program offers four days and three nights in Puerto Maldonado, Peru, known as the Biodiversity Capital of the country. Participants will arrive at the designated airport or bus station upon their arrival.

On Day 1, guests will receive a warm welcome and detailed information regarding the tour at the Monte Amazonico Lodge. A transfer to the local port will take place via boat, lasting approximately one hour, before arriving at the lodge. Upon arrival, participants will be greeted by a refreshing fruit juice served locally. Following lunch, they will embark on a guided tour of "Monkey Island," situated along the Madre de Dios River. This area features opportunities for caiman searches, which require a flashlight due to the presence of these creatures near the riverbanks. They will then proceed to explore the nearby Lake Sandoval, part of the Tambopata National Reserve, engaging in a leisurely walk of approximately 3 kilometers (approximately 2 miles), followed by a rowing boat excursion. Throughout the day, visitors can expect to encounter various bird species, including hoatzins, cormorants, jacanas, pumas, herons, and eagles. The evening includes a typical Peruvian lunch and a nighttime wildlife observation session.

On Day 2, participants will start their morning with an early breakfast and engage in a brief boat ride into the Sandoval Lake. Once checked-in at the checkpoint, they will undertake a 3-kilometer (approx. 2-mile) walk towards the lake’s shore. Guided by knowledgeable guides, they will navigate the lake aboard a rowing boat, observing numerous bird and monkey species such as Hoatzins, Cormorants, and Jacanas. They might also chance upon the family of giant river otters, currently endangered, or an alligator measuring over 4 meters in length. Post-lunch, participants will embark on a night walk, offering insights into the diverse array of insects, amphibians, reptiles, and nocturnal animals found within the ecosystem.

On Day 3, the schedule begins at 5:30 AM with an aerial exploration of the forest canopy, featuring a series of bridges allowing observers to gain a new perspective on the rainforest environment. Highlights include bird sightings like toucans, macaws, tanagers, and orioles. Breakfast will serve as the starting point for an adrenaline-fueled tree-top adventure, involving a zip-line activity conducted under expert supervision. Participants will learn about proper safety procedures while experiencing a breathtaking flight through the foliage.

Following the zip-line, guests will refuel with a hearty breakfast. Their final day will commence with an adventurous kayak crossing of the Madre de Dios River, providing stunning views of the setting sun. Alongside this journey, participants will indulge in an artisanal fishing expedition in the river, aimed at catching catfish among other fish species.

On Day 4, guests will depart the lodge, returning to the city for transportation to the airport or bus terminal upon completion of the program.
