Walvis Bay, 4x4 Desert Excursion to Sandwich Harbour Bay

Explore a remarkable geological formation characterized by expansive stretches of towering sand dunes that seamlessly merge with the horizon, creating an awe-inspiring vista. Venture through these majestic landscapes on a 4x4 vehicle, immersing yourself in a world where the forces of nature have sculpted an extraordinary habitat for various flora and fauna adapted to survive in its unforgiving climate.

Upon arrival at the Walvis Bay Waterfront, visitors are greeted by an impressive array of flamingos within the Walvis Bay Lagoon. Subsequently, embarking on a guided 4x4 tour, participants venture into a tidal lagoon featuring contiguous intertidal zones, mudflats, and sandy bars that serve as a habitat for thousands of wetland birds. Notably, several rare bird species, including 11 species deemed critically endangered, can be spotted here.

The tour continues with a visit to the Kuiseb River Delta, a region characterized by its dry riverbeds where springbok herds occasionally make their appearance. This location also offers opportunities to observe various smaller wildlife, such as the fog-basking beetle, the white lady of the Namib, the golden mole, the shovel-snouted lizard, and the palmato gecko.

If favorable conditions permit, the tour culminates with a journey along the beach towards the Sandwich Harbour Lagoon, one of Southern Africa's most prolific wetlands and the second Ramsar site visited during the trip. This unique coastal ecosystem, nestled between the ocean and the Namib Desert, plays host to eight endangered species alongside the abundant population of wading birds.

As part of the final experience, a leisurely picnic is organized, providing guests with a delightful meal featuring selections of oysters, snacks, salads, freshly baked bread, fresh fruits, and beverages. The venue offers panoramic views either from a high dune overlooking the Atlantic Ocean or on the beach itself, offering a picturesque setting to conclude the expedition.
