Starting from Haputale, we embark on a running journey through diverse forest landscapes, including expansive eucalyptus and pine forests situated within picturesque tea plantations of the scenic Hill Country.



Trail running begins at Haputale, traversing diverse forests and tea plantations in scenic hill-country landscapes. The route features towering eucalyptus and pine trees, offering a unique viewing experience of Sri Lanka's natural beauty.

As runners progress, they encounter Thangamale Bird Sanctuary, renowned for its serene environments and opportunities to observe various species of birds. This sanctuary offers a tranquil setting ideal for wildlife enthusiasts, making it an excellent destination for those interested in nature.

Continuing along the railway line for approximately half an hour provides a thrilling perspective of Sri Lanka’s vast landscapes. Passing through tunnels adds excitement to the journey, showcasing the region's rich history and engineering marvels.

Thangamale Bird Sanctuary is accessible via the picturesque Thangamale Mountain Road, which leads to a series of challenging terrains and stunning vistas. Here, runners can immerse themselves in a world untouched by modern civilization, appreciating the natural beauty of the region.

Following lunch break in a lodge, the trail progresses towards Babarakanda Falls, the highest waterfall in Sri Lanka. En route, runners traverse a winding mountain path adorned with panoramic views and lush tea plantations. Alongside this, they may spot tea estate villages inhabited by hardworking tea plantation workers.

The next leg involves navigating Devil's Staircase—a narrow path with three hairpin bends. At the end, the trail descends into a tea estate, presenting a dramatic change in scenery.

Proceeding onward, runners arrive at Lanka Falls, another captivating waterfall nestled within a dense forest. Known for its pristine surroundings, this natural attraction often remains secluded due to limited visitor access. Once reached, participants can relax in the refreshing waters or cool off in a natural swimming pool below the cascading waterfall.

Afterward, the final stretch takes runners to the Colombo-Badulla Mail Road, marking the conclusion of their trail adventure.
