Costa Rica Holidays Tours

This captivating tour offers visitors an opportunity to explore the river ecosystem, where one may encounter various species including birds, monkeys, and anteaters.

Palo Verde National Park boasts an abundance of avian life during its various seasons. During the rainy season, the Río Tempisque's waters expand, creating vast marshlands that attract migratory birds from across North America towards the end of autumn. As the region transitions into the arid months between December and May (referred to as summer in Costa Rica), these marshes diminish into isolated pockets and ponds, prompting many resident tropical bird species to migrate southward for their breeding periods in more temperate regions.

One notable feature within the park is the Isla de Pajaros (Bird Island). This small mangrove island serves as a sanctuary for several native bird species, including Cattle Egrets, Roseate Spoonbills, Wood Storks, Green-backed Herons, Anhingas, Great Egrets, and Black-crowned Night-Herons. These birds take advantage of the protected environment to build their nests and raise their young.

In addition to the endemic species, visitors to Palo Verde National Park may also encounter other common waterfowl such as White Ibis, Glossy Ibis, Black-necked Stilt, Black-bellied Whistling-Duck, and the elusive Snail Kite. The park offers an array of aquatic birds like the American Widgeon, Northern Shoveler, and the strikingly beautiful Blue-winged Teal.
