Bhaktapur, Nepal
Sankhu, situated among rolling hills and lush greenery, provides a tranquil retreat for nature enthusiasts who desire a balanced fusion of historical significance and pristine wilderness.
We hereby introduce an exceptional trekking trail that commences at Nagarkot and extends towards Bhaktapur. This journey encompasses diverse cultural landscapes, architectural marvels, and natural beauty. Situated approximately 17 kilometers north of Kathmandu, the nation’s bustling capital, lies the historical Newar settlement of Sankhu within the Kathmandu Valley's northern sector. The city's erstwhile ruler, King Mahendra Malla, bestowed upon Sankhu its name.
Amongst the numerous attractions along the route, one cannot overlook the venerable Changunarayan Temple. Perched atop a hill, this ancient edifice stands as a testament to Hindu mythology, with intricate carvings and sculptures depicting Lord Vishnu. Dedicated to Garuda Narayana, the temple is renowned for its unique design—belonging to the Bhaktapur region—and is celebrated during significant festivals like Teej, Haribodhani Ekadashi, and Naga Panchami. These celebrations attract considerable attention and make it a pilgrimage site for devotees seeking spiritual enlightenment.
