Experience Galician culture by participating in a queimada ceremony in Santiago de Compostela. Gather at a communal table featuring a large clay pot in the middle, invoke good fortune, and enjoy a newly brewed queimada.
The Queimada Ritual: An Unravelled Tradition
The origins of the Queimada ritual remain shrouded in mystery, yet its popularity can be traced back to Celtic times, while others attribute it to the Middle Ages. Regardless of its exact inception, one thing is certain – this potent beverage has long served as a means to dispel curses and banish malevolent spirits.
This mystical experience transports you to the vibrant landscapes of Galicia, where you'll embark upon an unforgettable journey through time and culture. Gathered at the historic San Martín Square, our adventure commences with a procession towards the sacred site where the ritual will unfold.
Upon arrival, we shall convene around a grand clay pot at the heart of the gathering. In this setting, a skilled Druid or Galician Meiga will emerge, guiding us through the intricacies of the Queimada's creation. Water, Earth, and Fire—three fundamental forces of nature—are integral components in crafting this elixir. As the Meiga begins her invocation, known as the "Conxuro da Queimada," she will chant the ancient incantations, invoking blessings and warding off evil influences just prior to sipping the newly brewed brew.
Following the ritual, we shall proceed to a tasting of the freshly prepared Queimada, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the essence of this age-old tradition.
