Day 01:

Starting from your current location, we pick you up and proceed to El Jem, a historical site renowned for its iconic Colosseum, which measures approximately 148 meters in length, 122 meters in width, and stands at a height of 36 meters. Spanning over two centuries, the Colosseum has witnessed numerous gladiatorial contests and public spectacles. Its estimated capacity of 35,000 spectators places it among the largest amphitheaters globally. Dating back to the third century, this architectural masterpiece embodies the grandeur and power of ancient Rome.

Following our exploration of El Jem, we continue our journey to Matmata, situated 40 kilometers west of Gabes, nestled within a mountainous terrain. Matmata is a Berber village comprising 1,800 inhabitants, boasting an elevation of 600 meters above sea level. Originating from the Temzit tribe, descendants of the Berbers who settled in the region, Matmata is particularly celebrated for its unique troglodytic dwellings. These structures were constructed underground to withstand the scorching summer temperatures, offering residents a form of natural cooling through ventilation systems.

As you traverse Matmata’s terraced landscapes, admire the intricate architecture of the troglodytic homes. Each courtyard features a dramatic drop of up to 30 feet, providing residents with a private sanctuary beneath the earth. These courtyards house living quarters carved into the rock, showcasing a remarkable adaptation strategy by the local community.

During our day trip, we conclude with a typical Tunisian lunch featuring dishes such as couscous, grilled meats, and fresh vegetables. Following the meal, we head towards Douz, also known as the "desert gate," before embarking on our journey to Chebika via Dgueche—a picturesque hamlet along the southern Tunisian coast. Upon arrival in Chebika, we explore the town’s rich history, visiting its historic oasis and learning about the transformation of the area once inhabited by Berber tribes.

Our next destination is Ong Jmal, a significant landmark for fans of science fiction enthusiasts. Here, we delve into the origins of the "Star Wars" saga while also experiencing the enchanting beauty of "Mos Espa," a futuristic locale designed to resemble the lush gardens of Tatooine. Afterward, we proceed to Gafsa for a leisurely lunch.

En route back to Tunis, we offer a panoramic view of Kairouan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in North Africa. Kairouan holds immense religious significance as it was designated as a Holy City under Islam and serves as the former capital of the Maghreb. Its architectural splendor includes numerous landmarks, including the Great Mosque, which dates back to the eighth century and remains an enduring symbol of Islamic artistry.
