From Lucerne, Self-Guided Round-Trip Train to Mount Pilatus

Explore Lake Lucerne and Mount Pilatus via a half-day train excursion featuring the world's most extensive stepladder cogwheel railway, the Aerail Cableway "Dragon Ride," and the panoramic Gondola.

Starting from Lucerne, the Silver Round Trip journey commences at the Lucerne Train Station. Proceeding via Bus No. 1 (direction Kriens/Obernau), passengers will find themselves within sight of the train station. This initial leg takes approximately eleven minutes, culminating at the "Kriens, Zentrum Pilatus" station. Following this stop, a brief walk leads travelers to the valley station of the panorama gondola, where they may choose to dine at Restaurant Krienseregg (at their own expense) and leisurely enjoy the surroundings while children engage in playful activities at the Pilu Land playground.

Subsequently, a further fifteen minutes pass as the panorama cable car transports visitors to the middle station Fräkmüntegg. Here, adventurers have the opportunity to test their skills in the rope park (at their own expense) or sample local delicacies at the self-service restaurant. At Fräkmüntegg, patrons also transition onto the aerial cableway known as "Dragon Ride," which offers an adrenaline-fuelled 5-minute ride up to the summit of Pilatus Kulm.

Upon reaching the summit, guests can marvel at expansive panoramic vistas overlooking the Lake of Lucerne and the Swiss Alps. Alternatively, they might opt for relaxation on the terrace, ascend one of the surrounding peaks (lasting approximately five to ten minutes), or indulge in local cuisine at either Hotel Bellevue or Hotel Pilatus Kulm (also at their own expense).

To complete the journey, a steep cogwheel railway descends from Pilatus Kulm through rugged terrain, including captivating rock formations, sparkling streams, and verdant Alpine pastures, ultimately leading to Alpnachstad. From there, travelers board the train back to Lucerne, returning them to their starting point.
