Upon arrival, we shall rendezvous with you either at Gondar Airport or at your hotel located in Gondar. Following this, we will commence our journey towards Debark, serving as the administrative hub for the national park. Upon reaching Debark, we will secure necessary permissions to enter the protected landscape before proceeding to the local market, where we shall indulge in a leisurely tea and coffee break. Should there be ample time, we will explore the vibrant marketplace, which operates daily but thrives particularly on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
From Debark, we will traverse approximately 16 kilometers to reach the national park's main entrance. Subsequently, we will proceed another 6 kilometers to reach Buit Ras, the inaugural region within the park boundaries. Here, we shall embark upon a challenging yet rewarding hike, traversing an estimated three to four hours to arrive at Chilkuwanit, a breathtaking viewpoint offering panoramic vistas of the rugged escarpment descending dramatically into the valley below. At Chilkuwanit, we anticipate encountering troop formations of the endemic Gelada Baboon, providing an unparalleled opportunity for close observation. Additionally, we might witness common jackals, klipspringers, and other wildlife, including rarer avian species such as Thick-billed Ravens, Augur Hawks, Black Kites, and Lammergeiers.
Throughout our excursion, we shall be guided by skilled guides who will provide valuable insights into the flora and fauna inhabiting the region, emphasizing the diverse array of bird species like the Thick-billed Raven, Augur Hawks, Black Kites, and Lammergeyers, along with numerous plant varieties such as Abyssinian Roses, Erica Arboria trees, Euphorbia species, and St. John's Worts. Our vehicle will depart from Chilkuwanit, transporting us back to Gondar upon completion of our tour.
