San Ignacio, Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM) Cave Full-Day Tour

Step through the gateway of the Mayan Underworld, where hidden chambers unveil ancient Mayan artifacts, skeletal remains, and evidence of geological transformations that have shaped this mystical realm.

Departing from San Ignacio, a 45-minute van journey leads participants to the Park Reserve. Upon arrival, each participant is divided into small groups consisting of eight members under the guidance of a professional guide. The tour commences with an overview of the day's activities, followed by assistance in adjusting safety equipment. Participants embark on their first of three river crossings, where they navigate through a deep section of the river utilizing a rope bank for safety. Subsequent crossings feature shallower waters, typically ankle-deep. Following a 45-minute hike, participants reach the mouth of the cave, where a guided swim across a designated ledge serves as a safety briefing.

Proceeding into the cave system, participants immerse themselves in the main water passage, navigating alongside the natural flow of the water until reaching a boulder formation. At this juncture, they transition into a dry chamber, requiring them to remove footwear to prevent damage to the cave environment. Within this chamber, visitors can marvel at calcified artifacts scattered throughout the ground, preserved despite archaeological scrutiny.

The final chamber beckons visitors to ascend a ladder, revealing complete skeletal remains. Exiting the cave via the same route, participants return to the parking area. Following a break to rehydrate, guests proceed to San Ignacio to conclude their exploration of the cave reserve.
